Version Update and QnA
First of all. The game has been updated!
Let's call this version 1.1.
It's mostly bug fixes, and a few quality of life improvements, as well as some dialogue tweaking.
Is there new content at all? Actually, yes! It's not much, but you'll see it if you finish the game. What exactly it is, is a surprise.
Second of all, let's go with a little QnA, as promised! First I'll answer questions asked in the previous devlog's comment section, then I'll compile some more general answers, but in the same format, for convenience.
Q: So we clearly have zodiac shenanigans happening here (Gemini and Libra and Pisces and whatnot.) Are the characters' personalities and dialogue based on their respective zodiac's archetype or is it simply aesthetics for character design?
A: This is not as straightforward to answer as you would initially think.
They are not based on astrological beliefs, or personality types according to your zodiac. Why? Because you could pick any two websites about astrology and end up with completely different answers.
However, the characters' personalities/themes/dialogue are based (sometimes loosely) on the zodiac sign that they represent.
Q: Will there be future plans for adding more zodiacs to the table?
A: This is being actively discussed, but I can't make any promises yet! We do have a few ideas though. I would love to make them a reality.
Q: Are there items in the game?
A: There are! You can access the menu with the escape key. If you're on a touchscreen, you should be able to summon it with two fingers.
Currently there's only two kinds of items in the game: a regular item, the lost 8 ball, and World teleporters.
Teleporters are non consumable, so as long as you have them, you can use them to go back somewhere. Fair warning however: There is one of them that can be stolen, in the first level. This may be changed in the future.
It's also possible to use regular teleporters to travel back by foot.
Q: Is the casino minigame rigged?
It's not rigged! It's pure probability. You have three "dice". Each dice can be one of 6 values, from 1 to 6. You only win if you match all three numbers.
You have 3d6 so the total number of possible results of the draw is 6*6*6 = 216. The winning combinations are {1,1,1}, {2,2,2}, {3,3,3}, {4,4,4}, {5,5,5}, {6,6,6}. Simple right? The game even notifies you when you match two— you don't win, but you get told that you were almost there.
So you have 216 possibilities and 6 winning possibilities... but that means there are 210 ways to lose.
In the end... you have 6/216 chances to win, which simplifies to 1/36. 35 times out of 36, statistically, you lose. I won once when I was testing the mechanic? But you'll want to play quite a lot of rounds to experience winning!
I COULD make you more likely to match all three numbers. For example, I could make it roll two numbers, and then roll the last one between the range of the other two. But that would be rigging it. And it also kind of misses the point of the whole level, which is to figure out you can't rely on gambling.
Interesting that the normal probabilities made you feel like you were being cheated though, right? Rolling three dice to match them all doesn't sound difficult, but it's actually a really tiny chance.
Thank you very much for your attention, and have a good day!
